So why a blog on fynbos? Well, I have always been fascinated by the amazing flora of the Cape. While from a distance it looks like dull grey-green stuff on the hills, when you get down into it, it is teeming with life, stories and uses. I am fortunate to live on a small farm tucked away in a beautiful valley surrounded by fynbos and forests. I love mountain biking and trail running and also spend a fair amount of my working time walking in the fynbos on Grootbos Nature Reserve (where I manage the conservation and social development programs), Flower Valley (where I am involved in the fynbos sustainable harvesting program) and at various other sites in Western Cape undertaking botanical assessments and fynbos rehabilitation work. I am passionate about the conservation of what is truly a unique and highly threatened flora. So this blog is about promoting fynbos and encouraging people to appreciate and look after that special grey-green stuff on those hills!
